Winter in Portugal

Tired of the Swedish winter?
Swap Sweden’s long, dark winter for a wonderful week of surfing by the sea, where the sun often shines, the temperatures are pleasant, and the days are much longer. Many people think winter surfing in Portugal is cold, unfriendly and dull, but it’s actually the opposite. Winter in Baleal offers truly great surf days, sunshine and amazing weather!
Winter surfing and sunsets
Many people think of surfing as a summer sport, but the truth is there’s no reason not to surf in Europe during the winter months. The waves can get bigger, but here in Baleal there are always sheltered beaches where smaller waves roll in, creating perfect conditions for beginners, all thanks to our peninsula.
Baleal also offers a lively selection of shops and restaurants throughout the winter. The village is never quiet, and the nature is just as magical all year round. Our surf camp is idyllically located by the cliffs, where days can be spent strolling along the coast and enjoying beautiful sunsets. Winter in Portugal is hard to beat!

The weather during the winter
“But doesn’t it rain all the time in winter?” Not at all! Just like at home, there can be the occasional shower, but definitely not all the time. Winter here often brings sunny days with a pleasant 15–20°C in the shade and much warmer in the sun. It feels more like a Swedish early summer than winter, and with almost twice as many hours of sunshine as in Stockholm, you’ll definitely get more energy and a better mood!
Combine Work and Surf
Want to start your day with a refreshing morning walk along the beach before diving into work? Or why not spend your lunch break on a surfboard?
Our surf camp is not just the perfect place for a surf holiday, it is also a great option if you can work remotely and want to combine work with waves. In our villas you will have access to desks, shared workspaces, and of course fast WiFi. Plus, there are plenty of cozy cafés and restaurants nearby, like Washed Up and Tugos, where you can work for a change of scenery. Here your daily routine and free time feel so much more inspiring than back home in a grey Sweden.
"I chose to spend a month in Baleal as an investment in myself and my surfing dream, while also being able to handle the administrative work for my tattoo studio."

Explore Local Restaurants
Fewer tourists in the winter means you rarely have to wait in line or book a table far in advance, a luxury that isn’t always possible during peak season. Baleal may be a small village, but there are several lovely restaurants and bars to discover.
Start your day with a coffee at Washed Up and enjoy lunch at Tugos, where their famous Tugos Bun is a must. As evening approaches, a sangria at the beachfront bar Tribo is perfect for sunset, before rounding off the day at Taberna, the village’s best restaurant, where you can enjoy fresh fish.
