Slang in the surf world
There's a lot of surf slang to keep track of in the surf world. Check out our list below to become a pro.
🏄 Lineup
Used to describe where the waves usually break. Here the surfers sit on their boards and wait for the waves to break.
🏄 Set
A series of waves, two or more, approaching the line-up. The waves in a series are usually what the surfers are waiting for, as these are larger and better to surf on than the waves "between" the series.
🏄 Drop in
This describes a person who starts surfing a wave that someone else is already standing up and surfing on. One of the most important rules to know when surfing yourself: The person closest to the "peak" of the wave (where the wave breaks and turns into white foam) has priority on the wave.
